BGBC Academy in cooperation with the National Centre for Radiobiology and Radiation Protection and the International Atomic Energy Agency organizes a two-day seminar

BGBC Academy, in partnership with the National Centre for Radiobiology and Radiation Protection, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) presents a two-day seminar “Reducing the risks from indoor radon – the role of building professionals”. The seminar will be held on the 14th and 15th of November 2011, National Center for Radiobiology and Radiation Protection.

Radon is a radioactive element that radiates from the earth (rocks) and can cause serious health problems after permanent exposure from its radiation when highly concentrated in buildings. Researches in the field claim that of all natural and created by human radioactive sources, radon has the highest risk potential. With concentration levels highest in lower floors and basements, radon levels could be reduced following measures such as retro-fitting and good ventilation. As an environmental factor resulting from building location, radon has direct influence over the social and economic stability of the building project.

Measuring and prevention of contamination with radon in buildings should turn into a standard practice in the design, construction and refitting of existing buildings in Bulgaria. There has been little development in Bulgaria’s construction sector in this field.

The primary objective of this seminar is to familiarize engineers, architects, builders and experts, all participants in the investment process, with the methods for reducing contamination in buildings following approved practices of countries in the EU. Seminar lectors will be experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Do not miss this opportunity to be among the first professionals to become familiar with the topic of radon protection which is a growing niche market in the construction sector and one which lacks the necessary expertise in Bulgaria!
