DGNB International Congress for Sustainable Construction and First European Network Council meeting, Stuttgart, Germany

The German Green Building Council held its annual congress dedicated to sustainable construction (Consense) in Stuttgart, Germany. Organized as a two day congress and expo fair, Consense is an established construction industry event in Europe. The latest construction materials and technologies for energy efficiency buildings were presented at the congress, as well as seminars on practical topics concerning the construction industry.
BGBC participated in all events during the congress. BGBC’s President arch. Kolarov met Christine Lemaitre , Executive Director of DGNB  to discuss the certification of buildings in Central and Eastern Europe.
A meeting of the international board of DGNB was held on June 23rd, 2010. Representatives from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Thailand and China Green Building Councils came together to discuss the mechanisms of building certification system quality assurance during international applications and the engagement of an independent third party review.
During Consense the World Green Building Council organized the first official European Network Council meeting where representatives of various European GBCs got together to discuss the unified presence of green building councils in Brussels, as well an European policy and education initiatives. The European Network Council will serve as an expert entity which will offer comment on directives for sustainable building practices for the European Union. Representing BGBC at the meeting was Director of Education and Development Vessela Valtcheva-McGee. Topics discussed at the event included whether buildings should be regulated on a European level whether the need exists to create a pan-European system for building certification.
Two working committees were established at the European Council Network meeting. One committee will coordinate policy efforts across Europe and serve as a voice at EU level, the other will serve to coordinate education efforts and systematize building certification efforts.
BGBC President Georgi Kolarov and Director of Education and Development Vessela Valtcheva-McGee met with Dominika Cherwinska from the World Green Building Council to discuss the membership status of BGBC in the world network.
