Building life – capacity building project ended and here are the results

Building life – capacity building project ended and we are glad to announce the technical report which will help us in the creation of a decarbonization roadmap of the construction sector in Bulgaria

At the end of May 2026 the Building life Capacity building Project has been led to its end. This project established the beginning of the creation of the decarbonization roadmap of the construction sector in Bulgaria. A World Green Building Council (WGBC) initiative, the project aims to identify the gaps and advantages in the construction sector in each participating country and use the results as a base to create a decarbonization map as an instrument to lead the sector to a greener performance. The initiative has been sponsored by the IKEA and Laudes foundations.

The Bulgarian Green Building Council started the project in 2024 with the support of the WGBC European Regional  Network and the local partnership of Triple Green Building Group. Our members and other external stakeholders in the construction sector participated in a survey, which identified the level of legislation, practices and understanding of the local market and authorities about the carbon footprint of construction in Bulgaria. The results of the survey have been analyzed by a specially created matrix and our next step was to prepare a workshop to discuss these with the participation of representatives of the private and public stakeholders of the construction sector. The final phase of the project was the technical report, according to which we will start the preparation of the decarbonization roadmap itself.

You can find the report here.
